Update from the Pastor

First Baptist Family, We continue to live in an environment that is "changing" not just by the week, but often by the day or hour. I have attached a recent publication regarding going forward in regards to corporate worship for the state of Alabama. As you can see from the document, "being open" is not what it looked like 90 days ago. In other words, as we go forward it will "be different." Proverbs 19:2 states, "he who makes haste with his feet sins"; therefore, FBCO will be deliberate but diligent as we begin to meet in person again. In the days ahead the leadership will be communicating with each other and you the questions of when?, where?, and how? Please understand that FBCO is a dynamic and vibrant congregation AND we have a lot of people on our campus under normal circumstances. Finally, though the details are forthcoming, I would project that a FBCOs return to corporate worship and ministry opportunities will be strategic. This strategy will most likely involve "progressive steps" so that measures of safety and security are addressed on smaller scales to ensure the same with much larger gatherings. Thank you in advance for your understanding and grace in these matters. No one desires FBCO to be open more than I; however, your safety and security of the greatest importance. Pastor Jeff

Easter Service Update - Drive in service Cancelled

Over the last few days I have had the privilege of conversing with numerous individuals associated with EAMC regarding FBCO's influence and impact in the Opelika/Auburn/Lee County community. Therefore, out of concern for our community's health and the example FBCO sets for others we will be cancelling our "Drive-In" Easter Services. Please join us at our regular times of 8:30, 9:45, and 11:00 for an "online" Easter Celebration.

This schedule will be the new norm for the foreseeable future, but we will continue to keep you informed. Our age graded ministries are also offering online activities, videos, and Bible Study. Decision for ONLINE SERVICES ONLY
Sunday at 11am and 6pm and Wednesday 6:30pm

Dear First Baptist Family,

As COVID-19 (Coronavirus) continues to spread throughout the United States, state and local health officials have asked Alabamians to avoid large gatherings in an effort to prevent additional risk.  Additionally, in the past FBCO has complied with local school districts in their cancelling or postponing of school gatherings for inclement or adverse weather conditions. Obviously, a national state of emergency (as issued by the POTUS) has led all of our surrounding school districts who are not on spring break next week to “cancel.”

Therefore, this week, our Sunday worship services and Wednesday night Bible study will be online only and not a public gathering. The following will be the FBCO online schedule:

Sunday, March 15
NO SUNDAY SERVICES
11:00 a.m. LIVE ONLINE Message from Pastor Jeff
6:00 p.m. LIVE ONLINE Message from Pastor Jeff

Wednesday, March 18
NO WEDNESDAY NIGHT ACTIVITIES
6:00 p.m. LIVE ONLINE with ASK JEFF

Sunday, March 22
Decision will be made by Friday, March 20 depending on national, state, and local recommendations.

Even though the public gatherings of FBCO will look different for at least this week, the ministry of FBCO will continue. Gospel conversations, planning for future ministry opportunities, and daily ministering to the “body” and the community will continue as normal. With the regular ministry of FBCO continuing please consider the following actions:

  1. Please be intentional to reach out to those in your Sunday school class, ministry area, or the church as a whole to encourage in this time of “social distance.” Particularly be intentional regarding those who are limited in their mobility and our large gatherings were their main source of community.
  2. Please continue to give. As I mentioned, the ministry of FBCO will continue and we are still planning and preparing for ministry opportunities in the future as they will be allowed. Even though we will not “pass the plate” this week you can give online at www.fbcopelika.com/give or you can mail your giving or stop by the office
  3. Please note, the church office will continue normal operating hours. Staff will be available to assist with spiritual and physical needs. Contact us at 334-745-5715 or info@fbcopelika.com with any concerns, questions, or needs.

Thank you for your flexibility in these complicated days,

Pastor Jeff

Dear First Baptist Family,

I wanted to take a moment to address concerns regarding the Covid-19 (Coronavirus) and its impact on our community and FBCO in specific. I want you to know that your safety and health are very important to us here at FBCO. Our leadership team is listening to and will heed the advice of those both locally and nationally in regards to this matter. As of this communication, no "official" warnings or "calls to action" have been issued in regards to churches in our community, but "things" could change in the days ahead.

We want you to feel safe here at FBCO. We are always dedicated to offering a clean, safe environment. Our facilities are not only cleaned regularly, but our cleaning contractor is seeking solutions to better combat the spread of germs in days such as these. Specifically, our Preschool area is wiped down with Clorox wipes after every service. Additionally, you should see an increase in sanitation opportunities on our campus beginning this Sunday.

I am looking forward to joining you Sunday to celebrate the goodness and grace of God. There is no substitute for the "assembling of ourselves (Heb. 10:25)"; however, if you are one of those whom officials have communicated a need to take extra precautions please know that all of our regular services will be provided through an online opportunity. Over the past few years we have invested resources and time to make sure that we as a family of faith can stay "connected" in times such as these.

Pastor Jeff
